Olsen Bill to Grant Vets Free Access to State Parks on Governor’s Desk

A bill that would grant free California State Park admission to to veterans and active-duty service members on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day now awaits Gov. Jerry Brown's signature.

The bill is sponsored by Assemblymember Kristen Olsen (R-Riverbank), who represents Turlock in the State Assembly.

“I am hopeful that Gov. Brown will sign this bill into law as a way of honoring our veterans and soldiers to commemorate and thank them for their selfless service to our country,” said Olsen.

The bill, AB 150, passed it's final vote on Tuesday with 77 yeas, no nays, and 1 abstention. Gov. Brown's signature is the last barrier the bill faces before becoming law.

Olsen’s great-uncle served in the military and was buried earlier this year in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

The average day-use fee for state parks is $12. Veteran's Day and Memorial Day are the two highest revenue-generating days of the year for state parks.
