On Saturday, January 14th, 2023, at 2:06 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported weapon offense that had just occurred near the intersection of W Main St and Lander Ave, Turlock.

When officers arrived in the area and began checking, they found several shell casings, a bloody sweater, and other pieces of evidence laying in the middle of Market St just west of S Broadway.

An officer began making his way to Emanuel Medical Center to check for any possible victims and while doing so, was flagged down at the intersection of Bonita Ave and E Main St by subjects in a silver Honda Civic. Witnesses had already told officers that a silver vehicle was somehow involved in the incident and this vehicle had bullet holes in it along with a shot-out window.

Inside the vehicle, the officer found two victims with gunshot wounds. The Turlock Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived at the scene, transporting both victims to local hospitals.

Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries at 3:05 am, shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Market St was closed between Third St and S Broadway until shortly after 4:00 am while detectives were called out to the scene to process it, interview witnesses, and do a variety of other things. Additionally, the silver Civic that the victims had been located in was towed to the Turlock Police Department to be processed for evidence.

During this incident, two subjects were arrested, however, they have not been booked or cited yet so we don’t know their identities or what they were arrested for. Information indicates that they are likely not the shooting suspects.

No suspect information has been made available at this point, however, information indicates that this likely isn’t a random act of violence and was the result of a dispute that had started at a nearby bar.

The deceased victim has yet to be identified, however, appeared to be a black man in his 20s.

The investigation remains ongoing, anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call Turlock Police Detective Gina Giovacchini at 209-668-6539.
