On Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, at 11:16 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire behind Tilly’s, 2737 Countryside Dr, Turlock.

While firefighters were responding, dispatch received information that a man had possibly started the fire, so the Turlock Police Department was also dispatched.

Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly extinguished a smoldering tree fire, preventing its spread.

Officers arrived in the area and began checking, making contact with Karl Zamora, 37, of Turlock, a known parolee.

Officers had their dispatcher run Zamora and they discovered that he had a no-bail felony warrant for violation of parole.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit responded and interviewed Zamora for his possible involvement in the arson, however, they were unable to develop probable cause for an arrest.

Zamora was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit at 209-525-5537.
