On Sunday, January 1st, 2023, at 2:32 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported traffic hazard near the intersection of N Golden State Blvd and W Tuolumne Rd, Turlock, after a man had been seen near the roadway attempting to strike vehicles.

When officers arrived on scene, they found and contacted a man who identified himself as Joshua Byerly, 43, of Sacramento.

When officers had their dispatcher run Byerly, he was determined to be a sex offender out of compliance with his terms and was on parole for failure by a transient sex offender to update their registration at least every 30 days.

Officers called Byerly’s parole agent who told them that he had also gone out of compliance with his parole terms the prior night because he had allowed his ankle monitor to die. The parole agent found that there was probable cause a violation of parole had occurred, so he authorized that Byerly be placed on a hold while awaiting a parole revocation hearing.

Byerly was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of failure by a transient sex offender to update their registration at least every 30 days and violation of parole.
