Piracy Investigation Nets 10 Arrests at Flea Market

Turlock Police arrested 10 people and seized more than $220,000 in pirated movies and music at the Turlock Sales Yard on Tuesday.

According Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb, Juan Gabriel Fernandez, 35, of Merced; Jannet Chavarria-Montanez, 18, of Modesto; Joel Ramirez, 24, of Modesto; Hector Manuel Arrieta, 45, of Modesto; Miguel Angel Ruiz, 42, of Turlock; Roberto Soto, 33, of Tracy; Joel Torres, 20, of Modesto; Diana Chavarria, 20, of Modesto; Oliver Munoz, 19, of Modesto; and, Juan Rios, 21, of Modesto were all arrested on felony counts related to the possession and sales of pirated material.

Detectives located 12 booths that displayed pirated DVDs and CDs for sale. In all, 20,000 pirated DVDs and 4,000 pirated CDs were seized.

Turlock police worked in conjunction with the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America to conduct the operation at the Sales Yard.

The Turlock Sales Yard is located at the corner of Johnson Road and East Avenue in Turlock.
