At about 7:33am Tuesday morning, Ripon Police arrived at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in the 4600 block of Dale Road in Modesto to conduct follow-up in a juvenile molestation case.

Based on an investigation into incidents that occurred in Ripon over 10 years ago, a $1,750,000 felony warrant had been obtained against Derek Young, 41, of Ceres, for continuous sexual abuse of a child, committing a lewd or lascivious act with a child under the age of 14, and engaging in oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years of age or younger.

Young was contacted in the hospital parking lot where he was employed and arrested.

He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant and was later extradited to the San Joaquin County Jail.

“Due to the nature of the investigation and to protect the victims, we will not be releasing any more information,” said Sergeant Staley.

According to Marie Russell, Turlock Unified School District’s Director of Communications, Young had been a paid walk-on wrestling coach at Pitman High School this season and the last. He had also been a volunteer walk-on coach the prior season.

“At this time, we have no indication that any TUSD student was harmed,” said Russell. “All coaches in TUSD are required to pass an FBI and DOJ background check and be fingerprinted prior to working with students. We also receive updates from the FBI/DOJ if anyone commits a crime while in our employment. The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority and we encourage anyone with information to please contact law enforcement.”

According to online records, Young was also previously employed by the Ceres Unified School District.

It’s unclear if Young is still employed by Kaiser Permanente.
