Pitman Student Struck by Vehicle

According to school officials at Pitman High School, a 15-year-old male student was struck by a vehicle at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the crosswalk at Kilroy Road and Christoffersen Parkway.

PHS Principal Rod Hollars says the boy, who is a freshman, was walking north on the east side of Kilroy Road and walked out into the crosswalk on a green light when a car making a right-hand turn onto Christoffersen Parkway from northbound Kilroy Road struck and injured the boy.

“He was taken to Doctors hospital and from what I could tell there wasn’t any blood or any visible broken bones, but he was shaken up,” said Hollars.

Due to privacy concerns Hollars said he could not release the boy’s name.

Hollars said several witnesses claimed the light was green and apparently the female driver, who was an adult, must have not been paying attention when making the right turn.

“He was probably a good 10 to 15 feet into the crosswalk already,” said Hollars.

In the minutes after the boy was hit, PHS campus supervisors and maintenance staff quickly secured the intersection until Turlock police, fire, and ambulance services arrived.

“I was duly impressed with how quickly and efficiently the whole incident was handled,” said Hollars. “I walked out of my office at 7:35 to 7:40 and by 8:05 he was taken by ambulance and the entire intersection was cleared.”
