Pizza for Paws at Papa John’s on Sunday

Papa John's Pizza will be serving up pupperoni pizzas this Sunday – and no, that's not a typo.

The local pizza parlor will host a special “Pizza for Paws Fundraiser” this weekend, devoting 20 percent of proceeds to the Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter. And the local animal nonprofit will have animals available to donate at the pizzeria, making Papa John's a one-stop shop for both kittens and cheesesticks.

The event was the brainchild of a Papa John's Pizza project manager. The restaurant typically holds fundraisers for schools and local homeless nonprofits, not for furry creatures.

“They wanted to do something animal-related this time,” said John Pinkerton, of Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter.

Pinkerton said that all funds raised will go into Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter's general fund, likely to be used for things like the nonprofit's low-cost spay and neuter assistance program.

But the amount raised will depend entirely on how many people decide to eat at Papa John's on Sunday.

“It's up to me to get the word out to the public,” Pinkerton said.

To participate in the fundraiser, patrons must simply mention the Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter when ordering on Sunday. The Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter's adoptable pets will be available for viewing outside, as well.

For those unable to visit Papa John's Pizza on Sunday, Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter will have animals available for adoption from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Turlock's Pet Extreme, 2840 Countryside Dr.

Papa John's Pizza is located at 2830 Geer Rd., in the Raley's shopping center. To order, call (209) 656-7272.

All of Friends of the Turlock Animal Shelter's adoptable pets are available for viewing online at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA1225.html. The nonprofit has pets available for adoption in-person from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday at Pet Extreme, except this Sunday.
