Police Catch and Arrest Fleeing Suspect, Officer Injured

While attempting to subdue a suspect who was fleeing from authorities, a Turlock police officer suffered a laceration on one of his eyes Tuesday night.

Officers had stopped a male subject on a bicycle for a violation at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Spruce and Angelus streets.

The subject, Lewis Gastelo, 44, had a felony warrant, reports the Turlock Police Department.

An officer attempted to arrest Gastelo for the warrant, but Gastelo resisted and was able to break free and run, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Gastelo was apprehended a short distance away, but he continue resist and fight with officers.

Officers were ultimately able to subdue the suspect, but one of the officers was injured in the struggle.

According to the Turlock Police Department, the injured officer’s eye was cut open.

The officer received medical treatment and returned to duty.

Gastelo was arrested and booked for resisting arrested and the felony warrant.
