Police Vow to Hunt Down as many Scofflaws as Possible this Weekend
Law enforcement officials with the Stanislaus County Avoid the 12 DUI Task Force will be targeting the ‘Worst of the Worst’ DUI Offenders with warrant/probation sweeps directed towards DUI suspects who either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation in a DUI case.
This Saturday, officers will deploy throughout the county to residences and places of business to clear court warrants on the books for the past year.
"There are thousands of DUI warrants in the system and the Task Force will be serving warrants to put scofflaws back in front of a judge," said Turlock Police Sergeant Neil Cervenka, who is overseeing the Avoid the 12 DUI program funded by the state’s Office of Traffic Safety. "Be forewarned, if you don’t take care of a warrant by going to court, we’re going to come find you and take you to jail."
DUI Driver’s License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force deployments and local Roving DUI Patrols are scheduled locally in partnership with law enforcement nationwide during the Summer/Labor Day Campaign August 19 through Sep 5 2011.
Those with outstanding warrants often face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation. When family, friends, and co-workers find out, violators can also face tremendous personal embarrassment and humiliation.

According to information released Turlock Police Community Service Officer Michelle Backeroff, “Over 200,000 DUI arrests were made last year and far too many suspects hope that if they simply avoid the court system, the whole thing might fade away. Others just have no regard for our laws and plan to avoid the penalties which will be imposed upon conviction.”
Funding for the “Avoid” program is provided by a grant form the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
