At about 12:13am Sunday morning, Turlock Fire, Modesto Fire, Turlock Police, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit, and American Medical Response responded to a fire behind Canal Veterinary Hospital in the 2000 block of E. Canal Drive.

When units arrived on scene, they found a porta-potty that had been set on fire and melted onto the gas pipes of the building.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented any additional extension.

PG&E responded to the scene to make repairs to the gas pipes.

A witness reported that several juveniles had arrived in a 90s model Chevrolet Tahoe to “see what was going on.” They were laughing and fled the scene just prior to units arriving on scene.

The fire investigators confirmed that the fire was arson.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit at 209-525-5537.
