Possible Expansion Coming to Osborn Immersion Program

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will hear a presentation on possible changes to the Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy on Tuesday.

Osborn has been the only dual immersion program in TUSD more than two decades — helping thousands of students become fluent in English and Spanish.

The school has only grown in population since becoming a magnet school. Currently Osborn has a waitlist of students trying to get into the academy each year.

On Tuesday, at a public meeting, the Board of Trustees will hear a presentation of potential changes and expansion to the program.

The specific changes have not been released at this time, however the meeting’s agenda details that copies of the presentation will be available at the meeting.

While major changes may be on the horizon for the immersion program, the Board of Trustees will only be receiving information will not be taking action at this time.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Trustees will also:

  • Consider accepted a $1,000 donation from David Hankal Farming for the Turlock High School Girls Golf Club.
  • Consider approving the Camp Sylvester Outdoor Education Program for sixth-grade students from Wakefield Elementary.
  • Hear multiple reports, including the TUSD Common Core State Standards and LCAP transition/implementation plan.

The TUSD Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the TUSD Professional Development Center, located at 1100 Cahill Ave.
