A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a father and son charged with committing a hate crime during a January incident at a Turlock bar.

Eddie Taylor, 54, and Eddie Taylor II, 25, are set to begin the preliminary trial on Aug. 25, according to the Stanislaus County Court Case Index. The two are facing a felony count of battery with serious bodily harm, a misdemeanor count of battery with serious bodily harm, and a felony count of an unknown charge.

At the time, the Modesto Bee reported that a fight took place at Staley’s Club in Turlock around 2 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2013. The Taylors, who are white, allegedly attacked a black woman outside of the bar.

Both Taylors have pleaded not-guilty, according to Courtroom Services Manager Debbie Perry.

Both Taylors are currently free on bail.

One more pre-trial hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. May 19 at the Stanislaus County Court.
