|

The Pitman Pride and new head coach Tom Tyler opened the 2013 football season with a scoring frenzy, claiming a 68-8 victory over the Enochs Eagles at Joe Debely Field on Saturday.

In the first half alone Pitman’s strong Wing-T offense posted 47 points, including a 33-point second quarter en route to a convincing victory. Running back Drew Lewis led the charge with four TDs and 125 yards rushing. One of his scores came on a 91-yard punt return.

Pride QB Wyatt Clapper threw for 151 yards and 3 TDs, including two connections to wide receivers Logan Wolfey and one to Donovan Bravo.

The Pride was ranked ninth among large area schools by blackhatfootball.com, and Enochs was ranked eighth. Pitman is ranked 13 in the Greater Sacramento region by maxpreps.com.

Enochs played with heavy hearts following the death of two players over the summer.

The Pride take on a tough opponent at 5:15 p.m. Friday against Lincoln High (Stockton) at Joe Debely Field. Lincoln is ranked 12th in the region by Maxpreps, but suffered a 27-0 loss to powerhouse Elk Grove on Saturday.

In other football news, the Turlock Christian Eagles fell 42-12 to Big Valley Christian this week. Following the 0-1 start to their season, the Eagles are just 4-27 in the last three seasons. TCHS plays next on Sept. 13 at Waterford High against Livermore Valley Prep.
