Public Pools to Open Soon, Spray Parks Cutting Hours

With triple-digit temperatures hitting Turlock this week, the City of Turlock recreation pools are opening just in the nick of time.

The City of Turlock has announced that Columbia Pool will open on Saturday, June 13, with the pools at Turlock and Pitman high schools will open on Monday, June 15.

The recreation swim pools at all three locations are open 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with Columbia Pool also open Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Cost to enter the public pools is $1 for children 17 and under and $2 for everyone 18 and older. Children must be at least 8 years old to enter without an adult.

Additionally, in an effort to further conserve water, the City of Turlock is cutting the hours of operation for the aquatic playgrounds from 1 to 7 p.m. to 3 to 7 p.m.

“So given the fact that we’ll have three alternative locations for the community to utilize as a source to cool off, I think it is prudent to further reduce the spray park hours,” said Director of Park, Recreation and Public Facilities Allison Van Guilder.

The spray parks will still be open seven days a week at Broadway and Columbia parks.

While some may find the pools more costly than the free spray parks, the City of Turlock also offers free swim passes. Swim passes can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Office, 144 S. Broadway, or they are also given out at the pool gates.

“We are very fortunate to have a lot of support from our community that we have free swim passes available for use,” said Van Guilder. “…I encourage people take advantage of that program if need be."
