Registered Sex Offender Takes on Cops, Loses

An unusual scene unfolded just before 11 a.m. Sunday morning in Turlock, when a registered sex offender attempted to escape a traffic stop by ramming into police cars.

Bret Gerard, 39, a registered sex offender convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, was allegedly spotted falling asleep while driving his vehicle, causing him to run several red lights.

Turlock police attempted to pull Gerard over, however he failed to yield. A short time later he pulled into a residential driveway near the corner of Christoffersen and Geer roads.

According to Turlock police, he refused to exit his vehicle and attempted to escape using his vehicle as a ramming device, backing up into a patrol car. He was stopped in the roadway and an officer removed him from his vehicle, yet he continued to resist arrest. Gerard was subdued and placed into a “wrap” to control his movements.

Gerard was charged for failure to yield to a police officer, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
