On Sunday, May 7th, 2023, at 3:14 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Lander Ave and northbound State Route 99.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first was a 2007 Honda Odyssey while the second was a 2017 Dodge Charger.

Information on everyone’s injuries was not immediately available, however, at least one person was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Officers began speaking with the driver of one of the vehicles, Paul Hernandez, 29, of Sacramento, and noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Hernandez agreed and completed the tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Hernandez was under the influence of alcohol.

Hernandez was arrested and transported to a local hospital to provide a blood sample as required by California’s implied consent law. Afterward, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury to another person, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater causing bodily injury to another person, and driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
