On Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 12:21 am, a Turlock Police officer near a residence in the 1500 block of Lander Ave, Turlock, observed a woman driving a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on her.

The officer made contact with and identified the woman, Carla Sandoval, 33, of Turlock, noting that she had her two small children with her.

When the officer had his dispatcher run Sandoval, he discovered that she had a suspended driver’s license due to a prior DUI conviction.

The officer noticed that Sandoval was displaying objective symptoms of driving under the influence, so he removed her from her vehicle and asked her if she’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Sandoval agreed and completed the tests.

The officer then asked Sandoval if she would be willing to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device, however, she refused.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officer determined that Sandoval was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested.

Sandoval then provided two breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The breath samples revealed that Sandoval had a blood alcohol content of .19% and .18% respectively.

Sandoval was issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and her vehicle was impounded.

Sandoval was then booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on two counts of child abuse or endangerment under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death, driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater.

Sandoval’s two children were released to their father who was also with her.
