Repeat offender drunk driver arrested on felony DUI early Sunday morning

On Sunday, June 12th, 2022, at 2:46 am, a Turlock Police officer near Turtle Creek Apartments, 1119 Colorado Ave, Turlock, observed a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on it.

The officer made contact with the vehicle’s two occupants, which included its driver, Manuel Vargas, 27, of Turlock.

The officer immediately noticed that Vargas was exhibiting symptoms of being under the influence, so he removed him from the vehicle and asked him to participate in standardized field sobriety tests, which he did. Vargas was then asked to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device, however, Vargas refused.

Vargas was arrested.

Vargas was determined to have a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction, be on county probation for DUI causing injury, and also be on federal probation for unknown charges.

Vargas was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater with a conviction for driving under the influence causing injury within the past ten years and violation of probation. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
