Residential Garage Fire in Turlock

On Tuesday, at approximately 4:30pm, the Turlock Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call from a neighbor reporting a detached residential garage fire in the 1400 block of Niel Avenue. The detached garage, which was in the alley, appears to have started on the exterior of the structure. The fire extended to the roof, with a small amount of extension to the interior of the garage.

Firefighters fought the fire in 100 plus degree temperatures and AMR assisted with firefighter re-hab.

The Turlock Fire Department responded to the call with 2 Division Chiefs, 1 Battalion Chief and 3 Engine Companies. Turlock Police Department, AMR, Turlock Irrigation District, and PG&E also assisted. Battalion Chief Bill Becker was the Officer in Charge at the scene.

The fire was under control within several minutes of arrival, but full extinguishment took approximately 20 more minutes due to extensive spread into the roof area. The fire, which appears to have started on the exterior, is currently under investigation.

The fire caused moderate damage to the garage and attached carport. Turlock Fire Department responded with twelve personnel, holding the fire to the 1st Alarm. The estimated dollar loss is set at $2,500.00.

The occupants of the home arrived and nobody was displaced due to the fire. Crews were able to isolate utilities to the garage and reinstate power to the main residence.

The Turlock Fire Department also added that the recent hot and dry weather conditions did contribute to the spread of the fire, and would like to remind community members to take extra precautions during the summer months.
