TurlockCityNews.com

September is full of fun and free activities at the Turlock Library, located at 550 Minaret Ave.

On Sept. 9, children of school ages can visit the library at 3:30 p.m. to decorate pencil boxes and supply containers for school or home use. The library will provide empty VHS boxes, which can be transformed into personalized supply containers. The library will provide all the materials, participants just need to provide the imagination.

Teenagers are invited to participate in a Button Maker Craft on Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. Participants can design and press their own large and small button pins. Crafters can personalize their buttons by choosing from a selection of images, including a personal photograph or drawing. The finished products are perfect for adorning backpacks, key chains, and more.

On Sept. 22, sign-ups for October’s “Read to a Dog” program begin. Parents may sign-up their independent readers for 15-minute sessions in which the child will have the opportunity to read out loud to a trained therapy dog. This program allows children to practice reading out loud while building confidence in their reading abilities. The library’s “Read to a Dog” program is sponsored by the Friends of the Turlock Library.

Things will get crazy on Sept. 23 when children and teens are both invited to the “Discover Your World Through Minecraft” event. Starting at 3:30 p.m. youth can participate in real world activities inspired by Minecraft. Participants can discover the exact height of an Enderman, create papercraft blocks or mobs, and more! Don’t miss out on this video game inspired event.

Gordon Little Jr., of Farmer’s Insurance, will offer a free Crime Prevention Workshop on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Participants will learn what they can do to keep their homes safe, and what to do in the event of a loss. To reserve a seat, please contact the Turlock Library at 209-664-8100.

To close this September to remember, kids of all ages are invited to visit the library on Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m. for LEGOs. Finished creations will be displayed in the library. All ages are welcome to participate, however children under the age of 4 must have direct parental supervision. LEGO programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Turlock Library.
