Serial package thieves in stolen vehicle arrested after pursuit to Merced County Thursday afternoon

On Thursday, December 29th, 2022, at 2:00 pm, a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detective near the intersection of Wayside Dr and Kenwood Ave, Turlock, was conducting follow-up in a series of package larcenies over the past several weeks involving two suspects in a stolen vehicle, when he came across the duo out stealing more packages.

The detective and other deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, however, its driver, who was later identified as Albert Soriano, 29, of Merced, failed to yield to them and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle went northbound on Geer Rd, westbound on Twentieth Century Blvd, and southbound on N Golden State Blvd before leaving the city. It then got onto southbound State Route 99 from S Golden State Blvd.

As the vehicle approached the Liberty Ave exit near Livingston, it briefly exited the freeway but then attempted to get back on. While on the on-ramp, the vehicle became disabled. Soriano and his passenger, who was later identified as Krystle Gonzalez, 33, of Livingston, both attempted to flee, however, were quickly arrested by deputies.

Both were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Soriano on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety, driving or taking someone else’s vehicle without their consent and with the intent to deprive them of it, conspiracy, buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, obstructing or resisting a peace officer or other public officer in the discharge of their duty, possession of burglary tools, and petty theft, and Gonzalez on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety, driving or taking someone else’s vehicle without their consent and with the intent to deprive them of it, conspiracy, buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and petty theft.
