On Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, at 12:18 am, a Turlock Police officer near QuikStop, 2406 W Monte Vista Ave, Turlock, noticed and recognized that had been taken in a recent carjacking parked behind the business.

While the officer was completing his paperwork to recover the vehicle, he was approached by a witness who told him that she knew a man by the name of Marc had been driving the vehicle that day.

After discussing the case with other officers, they all came to the conclusion that the Marc in question was likely Marc Ausema, 54, of Turlock, a transient sex offender who frequented the area and matched the description given by the witness.

Officers began checking the area for Ausema and quickly located him at the intersection right next to the gas station.

An in-field show up was conducted and the witness was able to positively identify Ausema as who she had seen driving the vehicle.

Ausema was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of buying or receiving a stolen vehicle.

The carjacking that the vehicle had been taken in had occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23rd, in the 1000 block of W Monte Vista Ave.

The victim had been sleeping in his vehicle when the suspect walked up to his driver’s door, opened it, and told him that he had a gun and to get out. The victim didn’t see a gun, however, complied out of fear of being hurt.

The suspect then took off in the victim’s vehicle, leaving the victim behind with no injuries.

It’s currently unclear if Ausema was the carjacker and the investigation remains ongoing.
