Turlock police arrested a female suspect the afternoon of July 28 after she was involved in a fight with a loss prevention agent at the Walmart Neighborhood Market and gave police a false name.

Shortly before 4:20 p.m. on July 28, a female suspect, later identified as Michaela Bassard, 22, entered the store, located at 2480 Geer Rd.

One store employee notified loss prevention that Bassard had entered the store; the suspect had been suspected of stealing previously, and was possibly there to steal again, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The loss prevention agent that had been notified of Bassard’s alleged previous incidents began to watch the suspect and saw her select merchandise off the shelf.

Bassard was watched until she passed the point of purchase without paying for the merchandise she was in possession of, said Lewis.

As loss prevention attempted to stop Bassard, she allegedly tried to punch the agent to get away, said Lewis. Bassard was eventually apprehended.

When contacted by Turlock police, Bassard gave officers a false name.

However, officers conducted a history check of a subject associated with Bassard, and her real name was revealed. When confronted by officers, Bassard gave up her real name.

Bassard was arrested for robbery and false impersonation.
