Short Night for Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick was on the field for just four plays Friday evening, an exceptionally short outing in the 49ers second preseason game of 2013.

Kaepernick, a Pitman High School graduate and quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, had just two pass attempts and no rush attempts during his one offensive series of play. He went 1-2, passing for -3 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In large part, Kaepernick's early exit was driven by a strong showing from 49ers running back Frank Gore. Gore rushed for 52 yards on the 49ers first offensive play of the game, taking the 49ers to the Kansas City 23-yard line.

Kaepernick's drive ended in a 42-yard field goal, converted by 49ers kicker Phil Dawson.

First-line players traditionally see light workloads during the first, second, and fourth preseason games. Kaepernick will likely play for between one quarter and one half during next week's contest, however.

The 49ers will next face the Minnesota Vikings at 5 p.m. Aug. 25 in a game to be held at Candlestick Park and televised on NBC. The regular season will kick off at 1:25 p.m. Sept. 8 for the 49ers, in a home game against the Green Bay Packers televised on FOX.
