Shots heard at Donnelley Park results in likely unrelated weapon arrest Sunday night

On Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, at 9:15 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to reported shots heard at Donnelley Park, 600 Pedras Rd, Turlock, after a couple of different callers had reported hearing over ten shots and seeing several vehicles leaving the area.

When officers arrived on scene, they found and contacted a few subjects near the skate park, including Antonio Rodriguez, 25, of Turlock. They were all determined to be uninvolved, however, stated that they also heard the shots and believed that they came from the east side of the park.

Rodriguez was discovered to have a $25,500 local misdemeanor bench warrant for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI suspension, so he was quickly arrested and released on a citation.

Officers continued checking the area and contacted a man near the intersection of Pedras Rd and Georgia Way, however, he too was determined to be uninvolved.

Officers then attempted to contact three subjects associated with a gray 2005 Pontiac Vibe in the parking lot off Donnelly Park Dr, however, one of them attempted to pull away from the officers as they detained him in handcuffs.

All three were identified, including the man who attempted to pull away, Carlos Vigil, 51, of Turlock, and Sylvia Juarez, 43, of Modesto.

Vigil was found to be in possession of a flare gun, which meets California’s definition of a firearm, and was discovered to be a convicted felon.

Additionally, Juarez was discovered to have a $2,340 misdemeanor warrant of arrest out of Stanislaus County for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Vigil and Juarez were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Vigil on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, carrying a loaded firearm, and obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty, and Juarez on her warrant.

The third subject who was with Vigil and Juarez was cooperative with officers, so they provided her a courtesy ride home.

No evidence of an actual shooting was ever located.
