Several Stanislaus County agencies have been awarded a $715,000 federal Justice Assistance Grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections for at-risk youth.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office along with The Boys and Girls Club, Applied Performance Sciences, the Stanislaus Family Justice Center, the Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency, the Stanislaus County Probation Department, Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office were awarded the grant.
Announced on Feb. 12, the grant will work to expand services, implement new prevention and education programs, mentoring and therapy for at-risk youth, and engage the community and parent involvement.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants will provide funding in each of three years and are subject to non-competitive renewal if counties meet performance objectives.
Small counties could apply for up to $220,000 annually, medium counties $715,000 and large counties $1,045,625 — with the exception of Los Angeles, which was able to apply for up to $2,091,250.
The Board of State and Community Corrections approved the awarding of $16.6 million federal grant funds to public safety projects in California over the next year.
