Stanislaus County Library Plans Blanket Drive for Shelter Animals

The Stanislaus County Library is calling on local animal lovers for their returning Snuggles Project.

This project, which aims to provide shelter animals with security blankets, will start Feb. 1 and run until Apr. 30.

It doesn’t matter if the blankets are knitted, crocheted, sewn or tied – so long as they’re finished.

Blankets must be 14”x14” for cats and small animals, 24”x24” for cats and small to medium dogs and 36”x36” for medium to large dogs.

Although these are guidelines, the sizes don’t have to be exact. Just be sure that materials are washable, like cotton or acrylic. Yarn ends must be double-knotted and well-woven in order to prevent unraveling.

When making a blanket, make it thick – both to provide comfort and warmth. Do not use batting in the blankets, as it’s not easy to properly wash if soiled.

Finished blankets can be donated to any branch. For more information, visit www.stanislauslibrary.org.
