Dozens of people suspected of fighting roosters in an abandoned Patterson building fled from Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies on Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of Cox Road. Upon the deputies' arrival, over 50 adult males began to flee from an old abandoned building located on the property.
After searching the building deputies found over 35 live roosters that were being held in wooden boxes. The deputies also discovered roughly 50 dead roosters inside and outside of the building that had been used in rooster fighting.
With over 50 adult men running away from the deputies, many of them fled the building and jumped into the San Joaquin River to escape. According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, no arrests have been made at this point.
The Stanislaus County Animal Services Agency is assisting in the investigation.
