Suspect Flees Collision After Escaping Police Pursuit

A routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit early Tuesday morning, with the suspect eventually being involved in a collision and fleeing the scene.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a pickup truck at approximately 2:42 a.m. on Tuesday on the 100 block of S. First Street.

The driver “blacked out,” or turned off the vehicle’s lights, and sped off, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

A short pursuit ensued, but officers eventually lost sight of the fleeing vehicle, said Lewis.

A few minutes after the pursuit had ended, officers heard over the scanner that Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a collision at the intersection of Walnut and Bradbury roads involving a vehicle matching the description of the pursuit vehicle, said Lewis.

The driver of the vehicle had fled from the vehicle following the pursuit, said Lewis.

Officers from the Turlock Police Department responded to assist in the search for the suspect, however the suspect was not located.
