Suspect Flees From Three Collisions Before His Arrest

Turlock police arrested a suspect who was involved in and fled from three collisions in Monte Vista Crossings on Monday afternoon.

After 2 p.m. on Monday, a driver, later identified as Fernando Aguilar, 19, rear-ended a vehicle while traveling westbound on Monte Vista Avenue before Countryside Drive.

According to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis, Aguilar swerved and cut in front of a vehicle before rear-ending the vehicle that was stopped in traffic.

Following the collision, Aguilar backed up and collided with the vehicle he had swerved and cut in front of, said Lewis.

To escape, Aguilar made a u-turn and traveled east in the westbound traffic lanes and turned into the Freebirds parking lot. Aguilar drove through the parking and attempted to make a turn onto Countryside Drive at Hotel Drive, however he collided with another vehicle.

Aguilar broadsided a vehicle at the intersection, but also fled that scene and traveled southbound on Countryside.

By this time, traffic had began moving and a Turlock police officer in the area was flagged down to help. The officer attempted to stop the suspect, however Aguilar made another u-turn and began traveling northbound on Countryside, said Lewis.

Aguilar entered the Chevron parking lot but was finally forced to stop as his vehicle became disabled due to the multiple collisions, said Lewis.

Turlock police apprehended and arrested Aguilar for felony hit and run and misdemeanor evading. Aguilar was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, where he remains on $20,000 bail.

Two occupants from the vehicle broadsided at the Countryside and Hotel drives intersection were injured and transported to an area hospital.
