Suspect in rape of motel clerk arrested Friday night

On Friday, May 6th, 2022, at 8:26 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported sex offense that had just occurred at Days Inn, 185 N Tully Rd, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a subject standing near the office who matched the description of their suspect. He was detained for their investigation and identified as Osman Mukhammadiyev, 29, of Massachusetts. Mukhammadiyev told officers that he was a long-haul truck driver who was staying at the motel.

Other officers met with the victim and began their investigation. She told them that Mukhammadiyev had called the front desk to report an equipment issue in his room, in an attempt to summon her. When she went to the room to fix the issue, he sexually assaulted her while she had her back towards him. During the assault, the victim was able to fight Mukhammadiyev off of her and escape to the office, where she called police.

Detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Evidence was collected and interviews were conducted, one of which was with Mukhammadiyev.

After the interview, Mukhammadiyev was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of rape by force or fear, false imprisonment, and kidnapping to commit robbery or a sex crime.

“We are deeply concerned because the suspect in this case is a long-haul truck driver,” said Detective Tony Argueta. “We believe there may be other victims of similar assaults by this assailant in other communities. A unique characteristic of Mukhammadiyev is that he is a smaller statured male who speaks with a heavy Russian accent. The Turlock Police Department urges anyone who has been a victim involving Mukhammadiyev, or any other victims of sexual assault or other crimes, to file a report with your local authorities,” he continued.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Detective Tony Argueta at 209-668-6538.
