Suspect Tased, Arrested After Contacted for Shooting Firearm into the Air

Turlock police arrested a male suspect on Sunday evening after he reportedly fired gunshots into the air and ground.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Lambert around 7:30 p.m. on the report of the shots fired.

However, prior to officers’ arrival, the suspect, later identified as Javier Romo, 26, had thrown the weapon on a roof, said Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb. Someone had grabbed it before officers could locate it.

Romo was very agitated and intoxicated, said Webb, and was refusing the commands of officers.

Eventually, officers were forced to deploy a Taser to apprehend Romo, as well as place him in a restraining device as he continued to resist once he was handcuffed, said Webb.

Romo was arrested and booked for discharging a firearm in public and resisting arrest.
