At about 11:50pm Wednesday night, Officer Ayala observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound State Route 99 from W. Main Street.

The driver eventually turned off all the vehicle’s lights as Ayala activated his red light and siren in an attempt to make a traffic stop.

The vehicle didn’t yield or slow down, continuing at a high rate of speed before taking the Lander Avenue exit.

A pursuit was initiated, but it quickly ended as the vehicle broke down in front of the Travelodge.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Jacob Urango, 19, of Turlock, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

The vehicle was determined to be a stolen vehicle out of Tracy that officers had been looking for about an hour prior, after being notified that it had driven through one of the intersections here in town with the new license plate readers.

They had been unable to locate it at the time, and after reviewing footage from the license plate reader camera, determined that it had likely gotten onto the freeway.

Urango was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of fleeing from a peace officer in a vehicle with disregard for the safety of persons or property, receiving a stolen vehicle, and driving without a valid license.
