Teen arrested on weapon charges after running from investigators Wednesday afternoon

|

On Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, at 4:11 pm, Turlock Police investigators near the intersection of Pedras Rd and Donnelley Park Dr, Turlock, observed a driver violate the California Vehicle Code, so they made a traffic stop on him.

The driver eventually stopped in front of a residence in the 100 block of Baylor Ave and a 15-year-old Hispanic male leg bailed from the vehicle, running into the residence while reaching for his waistband and failing to obey several lawful orders to stop. He eventually exited from the back of the residence and began jumping fences.

Assisting officers eventually arrived and set up a perimeter, which included a canine and drone.

During the perimeter, the 15-year-old eventually approached investigators and surrendered. He was arrested without further incident.

The vehicle’s other occupants were interviewed and eventually released.

One of the residents of the home the 15-year-old ran into was on searchable probation, so investigators conducted a probation search. During the search, investigators discovered a loaded unregistered handgun and fentanyl.

The 15-year-old was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges of obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

The Turlock Police Department later made a post about the incident on social media which included a photo of the seized items, including a bright red Cookies SF hoodie. Commenters asked why that was included in the photo and we feel it’s necessary to point out that bright clothing like that, especially red, is typically indicative of gang activity, which the residence that the 15-year-old ran into is well-known by police for.
