Tent fire inside fairgrounds spreads to building early Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, September 14th, 2022, at 3:01 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, 900 N Broadway, Turlock.

The fire had started in a tent, however, by the time firefighters arrived on scene, it had extended up the wall and onto the roof of a single story commercial structure that is used as a kitchen and gathering hall. The incident was upgraded to a commercial working structure fire which brought in additional resources from the Turlock Fire Department as well as the Modesto Fire Department, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit, and American Medical Response.

Firefighters began fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control within about thirty minutes.

During the fire, a natural gas line was damaged which caused a small leak. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company was able to secure it.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time after the fire was out conducting overhaul, investigation, and other post fire activities.

The Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Company responded to the scene to secure utilities, while the Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided city coverage for the duration of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
