Territorial dog confronts officers needing to conduct vehicle search early Monday morning

On Monday, February 13th, 2023, at 1:56 am, a Turlock Police officer near Chevron ExtraMile, 100 E Glenwood Ave, Turlock, recognized and made contact with a man in the parking lot.

When the officer had his dispatcher run the man, Jesus Galvan, 47, of Turlock, he discovered that he had a $100,500 local felony bench warrant for domestic violence inflicting corporal injury. He was arrested.

Officers then located a nearby vehicle associated with Galvan that they needed to search incident to arrest, however, were confronted by a highly territorial dog, so they requested that the on-call animal services officer respond and dart the dog.

When the animal services officer arrived, she and the patrol officers worked to safely remove and secure the dog without darting it. Although it was a challenging task, it was eventually completed. The vehicle was then searched, however, nothing of interest was located.

Galvan was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant, while Gorda, the dog, was impounded at the Turlock Animal Services facility.
