The Palms apartment window shot out early Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at 12:19 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to reported shots fired at The Palms Apartments, 1119 Pedras Rd, Turlock, after several people called in to report that they had heard gunshots and sounds of glass breaking.

As officers began arriving on scene, they noticed a suspicious vehicle beginning to leave the area. Because of how close they were to the location when the call went out, they decided to stop the vehicle and make contact with its driver, as it was possible he was involved in the incident. Officers noticed what they believed to be a firearm in plain sight in the vehicle, so the subject was detained at gunpoint.

Officers began searching the apartment complex and came upon an apartment in the northeast corner of the complex that had a window which had been shot out. The apartment was searched for any possible victims and it was determined to have been empty.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that the subject who was detained was actually not involved in the incident and that it was all just a coincidence. Further examination of the firearm in plain sight revealed it to be an airsoft gun, while further examination of the window that had been shot out revealed that it had been shot out by a real firearm. The subject was released from detention shortly thereafter.

Officers later made contact with the resident of the apartment over the phone and he had no information to share with them as to why someone had shot out his window.

No injuries were reported and the shooter remains on the loose.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Gustavo Fajardo at 209-668-1200.
