Three arrested on various weapon charges after stolen gun found during traffic stop in school zone Sunday afternoon

On Sunday, May 28th, 2023, at 4:44 pm, a Turlock Police officer near Dutcher Middle School, 1441 Colorado Ave, Turlock, observed a man driving a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the vehicle’s four occupants, driver Alonzo Saldana, 18, of Turlock, another adult male, and two juvenile males.

When the officer had his dispatcher run the four, he discovered that the adult passenger and one of the juveniles were on searchable probation, while the other juvenile didn’t have any record on file.

Due to all four subjects appearing nervous and two of their searchable probation statuses, they were all removed from the vehicle and detained in handcuffs so a probation search could be conducted.

During the probation search, officers located three loaded handguns, two of which were hidden in unusual places, a 30-round magazine for one of them, and a drum magazine for another one of them. Officers also located an identification card for the juvenile who didn’t have any record on file, discovered he had lied about who he was and was also on searchable probation, and discovered that one of the guns had been reported stolen out of Texas.

Saldana and the two juveniles were arrested. Saldana was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a large-capacity magazine, carrying a loaded firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm, while the two juveniles were booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on unknown charges.

The adult passenger hadn’t committed any crimes and was released.
