THS Students Donate Blood

More than 100 Turlock High School students donated a pint of blood Monday to help save the lives of others. For every pint of blood donated, up to three lives can be saved.

Each year the THS MediCareers Club and Delta Blood Bank sponsor the blood drive at THS. MediCareers Club Advisor Sue Bonander explained that club members support Delta Blood Bank personnel by setting up the donation area in the school library, registering, scheduling and escorting students to and from class and escorting donors from the donation area to the canteen area where cookies and juice are provided to donors.

THS junior Brian Mendez spoke about the importance of the blood drive and donating.

“Even though we may not see or know the people we directly affect from giving blood, we know it makes a difference,” he said. “These people with, whether it be leukemia or sickle-cell or any other ailment, rely on this donated blood from people such as ourselves. I donated blood today because I feel that whenever we can help or save people, we have a moral obligation to do so, and donating blood was a perfect opportunity.”
