Prepare for a brain freeze: this Thursday marks 7-Eleven’s 83rd annual free Slurpee day. 7-Eleven says it expects to give away more than seven million 12-ounce Slurpees across the country on Thursday.

Last year, Turlock's Geer Road 7-Eleven location handed out more than 600 frozen concoctions of flavored icy goodness. This year the drinks will be nearly twice the size – they were 7.11 ounces last year.

“7-Eleven Day has become so popular that people mark it as a recurring event on their calendars,” said Stefanie Olson, 7-Eleven category manager for Slurpee and Big Gulp beverages. “Some people forget that it’s July 11th or 7-Eleven Day. They just know it as free Slurpee day. It’s a great way to create a party atmosphere at our stores. Everyone wants to celebrate!”

Free Slurpee drinks aside, July, typically the hottest month in the U.S., is the top-selling Slurpee month of the year.

7-Eleven gives out free Slurpees each July 11th to commemorate the convenience chain’s birthday. 7-Eleven opened its first store in Dallas in 1927.

Free Slurpees will be available – fittingly – from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
