TID Board Increases Water Allotment, Extends the Irrigation Season

TURLOCK – The Turlock Irrigation District (TID) Board of Directors increased the allotment from 33 inches to 48 inches. The cap was increased from 48 inches to 54 inches. The decision was based on the actual runoff figures which exceeded the projections utilized in April when the original allotment was established.

Farmers brought up the issue at a previous TID Board Meeting and many farmers filled the TID Board room on Tuesday to show support for their request.

TID Director Rob Santos said

"I'm happy that the district could increase the grower's water allotment... Especially in these dire economic times."

Growers will receive the 48 inch allotment at $23 per acre. Growers may purchase an additional 6 inches of Tier 2 water at $15 per acre-foot.

In addition, the Board extended the irrigation season to October 21, 2009.
