Toddler airlifted after being struck by vehicle Wednesday evening

On Wednesday, December 1st, 2021, at 6:18 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries in the 900 block of Pioneer Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they located a single vehicle involved, a white BMW sedan, that had struck a 1 year and 9 months old toddler, who was laying unconscious in the middle of the roadway.

The white BMW sedan had two occupants, both of which were uninjured. The toddler sustained major life threatening injuries to his head and was airlifted by CALSTAR Air Medical Services to a regional hospital. He was unconscious the entire time, however, was breathing on his own. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

The white BMW sedan sustained minor damage and was able to be driven away from the scene.

Officers began investigating and determined that the white BMW sedan was traveling southbound on Pioneer Ave from Wayside Dr, while the toddler was outside with his family saying goodbye to their friends who were visiting. The toddler escaped from his family and entered the roadway, which is when he was struck by the white BMW sedan.

At this point, officers do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer John-Paul Beech at 209-669-2108.
