Tower of Power to Play Stanislaus County Fair

A little bit of Oakland soul will come to Turlock this summer.

Legendary R&B and soul group Tower of Power will play at the Stanislaus County Fair on July 18, fair officials announced this week.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Tower of Power,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “Their timeless music will be a hit with guests of all ages.”

Tower of Power hasn't stopped touring and recording since their 1968 debut. The group was most popular in the 1970s, with their self-titled 1973 album hitting No. 15 on U.S. charts. Their 1974 album “Back to Oakland” and 1975 album “Urban Renewal” both reached the top 25.

Tower of Power has had five Billboard Top 100 hits, as well as countless more top-100 songs on the R&B charts. The group is best known for their hit singles “You're Still a Young Man,” “So Very Hard to Go,” “Soul With a Capital S,” “Soul Vaccination,” “What Is Hip?” and “Don't Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream).”

Tower of Power will play on at 8:30 p.m. July 18 on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage. The concert is hosted by KABX Radio, and is free with the price of fair admission.

The 2013 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 12 for a 10-day run. Discounted admission tickets, unlimited ride wristbands, and the Fair season pass will go on sale beginning May 4.
