Tractor trailer fire extends into building Sunday afternoon

On Sunday, March 27th, 2022, at 1:40 pm, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at Northern Refrigerated Transportation, 2700 W Main St, Turlock.

While responding, firefighters learned that it was a refrigerated tractor trailer that was on fire and that the fire was spreading into a building through the loading dock door. The incident was then upgraded to a commercial working structure fire, which brought in several additional resources from the Turlock Fire Department and Modesto Fire Department, as well as American Medical Response.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a fully involved fifty three foot refrigerated tractor trailer full of product. Firefighters immediately began fire attack.

After a bit of work, the fire was finally knocked out. It was determined that the fire did indeed extend into the building, however, the sprinkler system activated and kept the fire at the loading dock area.

An estimated $25,000 of property damage and $400,000 of product loss was caused.

American Medical Response responded to the scene to provide firefighter and patient care, while the Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric responded to secure utilities. The Modesto Fire Department and Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided city coverage while the incident was on-going.

It is currently unknown what caused the fire.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit at 209-525-5537.
