Traffic Advisory: Big Rig Overturned on Southbound Highway 99 at Keyes

A semi-truck has overturned on Southbound Highway 99 near the Keyes Road on-ramp near Turlock, backing up traffic into Ceres.

“It’ll be a traffic tie-up for a little bit,” said CHP spokesperson Officer Eric Parsons.

The big rig, carrying cement in a powder form, overturned and landed in the right shoulder at approximately 1:45 p.m. There were no injuries in the accident, per the CHP.

As of 2:45 p.m. traffic on Southbound Highway 99 had backed up to the Mitchell Road exit in Ceres, nearly 6 miles away.

The traffic back-up is only expected to get worse.

The first tow truck arrived on scene at approximately 3:30 p.m., with a second truck expected shortly thereafter. The delay came as the tow company initially contacted by CHP was unavailable to respond to the incident.

The overturned semi’s cargo must be unloaded into another truck before it can be righted, further adding to the delay and compounding traffic issues.
