Transient Arrested on Misdemeanor Warrant After Sleeping on Bus Bench Blocking Others From Sitting Down, Officer Still Handles Situation Humanely

At about 8:45am Wednesday morning, Turlock Police responded to a city ordinance violation in the 2100 block of Fulkerth Road.

The caller was Turlock Transit dispatch, reporting that two transients were sleeping on the bus bench, preventing others from using it.

Officers arrived on scene, contacted the two, and identified them, including Shannon Barney, 48, of Stockton.

When officers had their dispatcher run the two, they discovered that Barney had a misdemeanor bench warrant out of Merced County for trespassing.

Barney was arrested and released on a citation for her warrant.

She and the other transient were then advised to not sleep on the bench.

Officer Arroyo humanely gave the woman a blanket before he left as it was cold out that morning.
