On Friday, January 6th, 2023, at 5:53 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported battery that had just occurred in front of Turlock City Hall, 156 S Broadway, Turlock, involving a transient and a security guard.

Officers arrived on scene and made contact with both parties. The transient suspect was identified as Joseph Nunnold, 53, of Turlock, and was obviously intoxicated

Officers began speaking with the security guard who told them that he had approached Nunnold and told him to stop urinating in front of the building. Nunnold responded by punching the security guard and a struggle ensued after the security guard attempted to place Nunnold in handcuffs. During that struggle, Nunnold suffered a non-life-threatening head injury.

Nunnold was arrested and released on a citation on the charge of battery.

He was then ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital to be treated for his injury and level of intoxication.

Although it’s a practice of the Turlock Police Department to book those arrested on misdemeanor crimes of violence, a release on a citation was deemed more appropriate in this situation so that Nunnold could be treated at the hospital.
