A Stanislaus County Superior Court judge has scheduled a trial date for the two men charged with an arson fire which burned down Turlock’s Red Steer Restaurant.

The trial for the co-owner of Red Steer, Tracy Smith, and his cousin, Jeremy Britt, has been scheduled to start Sept. 30. A pretrial hearing is set for Aug. 25.

The two are accused of burning down the Red Steer in May 2009 to cash in on an insurance policy. The fire caused more than $1 million in damage to the restaurant.

Smith has been charged with arson and Britt has been charged with aggravated arson, both felonies.

The Red Steer Restaurant in Turlock was located at 203 Golden State Blvd., but has since been demolished. The lot currently sits empty.
