Tuesday afternoon fight turns into shooting

On Tuesday, May 11th, 2021, at approximately 1:10 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call of a shooting in progress in the 400 block of S Laurel St where a male was actively shooting a gun. Officers responded and arrived on scene within a minute of the call.

The first arriving officers detained two males. One was an adult, the other a juvenile. Officers conducted a pat down for weapons on both and recovered a loaded gun on the juvenile, which was later determined to be stolen. Officers also detained another group of males, both juveniles, but they were later released after explaining that the first group of males had started a fight with them.

The second group of males further explained that after they had been involved in a fight with the first group of males, they had gone to a parent’s house to report the fight to them. At that point, the parent drove to the location of the fight in an attempt to identify those involved, when the male that had a gun began shooting.

No one was struck by the gunfire and only minor injuries were sustained as a result of the fight.

The juvenile with the gun, whos identity was not released, was a 16 year old male. He was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, prohibited person in possession of a loaded firearm in public, and possession of a stolen loaded firearm.
